More political posturing from Johnny.
July 2, 2008
and the following should impress you coming from me, but this is ole’ Johnny Mcflopper at his finest, giving the Nixon grin and posturing to right with the gaffes of Amy Generals.
This afternoon McCain asserted that Senator Obama should “cut loose” Wesley Clark- a general- because of his comment made on “Face The Nation” this passed Sunday. Problem Johnny, Wesley Clark doesn’t work for the Obama campaign. Unlike Charlie Black, who seems to think that another terrorist attack would help your cause. Oh and by the way, why did that exit the news so soon?
1. Wesley Clark didn’t have any reason to apologize.
He was asked a question about Senator Obama never riding in a fighter plan and being shot down. He answered that question.
2. I am glad he didn’t
Why should he? By John McCain or any other pundit, radio personality, or journalist condemning Wesley Clark, aren’t they in some sense, disprespecting a hero? isn’t that why we are all supposed to be giving clark the finger? is Wesley Clark not a hero? Or are we all so wound up in finding the next “gotcha, fucker” moment that we can’t understand that concept?
To Republicans it is this “How dare you say that John McCain’s service to the military is irrelevant.”
Well, 4 years ago it was,
“how dare you think that John Kerry’s service in the military is relevant. And can we really call it ’service’ he got scratched on the arm.”
Yes, GOP- there is NO conflict of interest there. Sense my facetiousness?
Are we going to say Military service is relevant, or are we going to say that it’s not? You can never tell with the Republicans because they will take both sides and every gray area in between on every issue under the sun.
So, to be clear, we are NOT allowed to say “riding in a fighter plane and being shot down doesn’t automatically qualify someone to be president..” But we are allowed to say,” phony soldier.” Because that is what the right was calling John Kerry and any leftist that was in the military and opposes the war- or any war.
See, this is what I have always found astounding about Republicans. They only honor the service of Republican men. When a politician or anyone that becomes some social pariah happens to be a Democrat or a liberal, their service doesn’t count.
Republicans somehow have managed to brand their party as this iconic larger than life image. Thanks Reagan. They use words likes “patriot” “family values” ” wholesomeness” “hero” “integrity” “Honesty” yet- I have yet to meet a Republican who was all of this rolled into one.
Speaking of integrity? Didn’t George Bush “win” and entire campaign on that slogan? Maybe his twin McCain can borrow it. Maybe McCain can propagate some myth that after Bush’s reign of terror he will “restore integrity” to the White house.
Face it McCain- when you’re smearing Clark you’re going against your own idea. Don’t disrespect a “hero.” Well, if we’re speaking of politics and military service:

What General Clark said:
“I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands of millions of others in the armed forces as a prisoner of war. He has been a voice on the Senate armed services committee, and has traveled all over the world. But he hasn’t held executive responsibility… well, I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.”

General Clark was in no way undermining McCain’s service, and indeed reconfirmed his image as a hero. Clark was simply suggesting that as much as a great military sacrifice makes you a hero, it does not immediately qualify you to be president.
To use this verb “swift-boating’ to define what Clark said is completely ridiculous. There is no comparison between what Clark said and the highly concentrated and heavily funded effort upon the part of Republican’s to tear down John Kerry’s military record.
NO COMPARISON.

Steve- EXACTLY. Email the McCain campaign and ask him how dare he disrespect General Wesley Clark, a hero.
July 2, 2008 at 11:21 pm
This makes me think Clark would be a good VP candidate. The entire anger over what he said is fake; nothing he said has been refuted! It’s style over substance, trying to create the impression Clark said something he didn’t. In fact, they maybe scared of a Clark Vice Presidential nomination they’re looking to damage him in any way they can.

scooter- I completely agree. This is a nonissue story. it’s a manufactured reaction to a not sugar-coated answer, just more hoops to make Obama jump through.
I also like Jim Webb. He is the VP I am rooting for.

Webb would be good too. That would almost certainly assure Virginia would go Obama.

I agree with you. Clark has nothing to apologize for and screwed by the Republican Noise Machine once again cajoling the media into carrying right-wing talking points.
But I find it odd that your staunch defense of Clark fails to mention how Obama threw him under a bus.
July 5, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Semi- I love how Obama haters always use the term, ” threw so and so under the bus” when it was the right wing noise machine that began to use that lingo when regarding Senator Obama. Do they even know what that term means? Every time Senator Obama denounces someone’s words it’s throwing someone under the bus- um- no.
Why didn’t McCain get shit for throwing Black under the bus? Oh that’s right because McCain believes Black’s words. What’s worse- publicly speaking out against someone, or supporting their stupidity?
I don’t really care that Senator Obama denounced Clark’s words. I knew he would have to because of the media.
